I feel like it might be an universally fear as we cut large gourds, squashes, watermelon that we might loose a finger or hand? These big rocking veggies or fruit make our 9 inch chef knife dull in size comparison. So when we saw this squash knife we immediately knew it deserved a spot in our already-very-full-space-is-limited kitchen.
Used in Japan by butchers and fishmongers for frozen cuts, this knife is also very useful for heavyweight jobs like cutting through pumpkins and squash. The blade is hard wearing molybdenum stainless steel, and the handles are rosewood. Use in a slightly rocking action, ideally on a wooden board. Hand wash only.
