This handmade ceramic butter keeper can be left on the counter housing the butter at room temperature. What makes this possible is the bottom crock vessel holds 1/4 inch of water.  This creates a seal for the butter bell to nest into. Butter will keep up to 2 weeks if the water is refreshed a few times within those weeks.
